Our Signature concert series continues with an exquisite programme by Emmanuel Despax .

Emmanuel Despax has gained worldwide recognition as a soloist, whose interpretations bring a rare sincerity and imagination to the music. Born in Paris and now based in London, Despax started playing the piano in Aix-en-Provence before joining the Yehudi Menuhin School, studying with Ruth Nye, a former pupil of the great Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau. He continued his studies at The Royal College of Music with Nye, where he won numerous awards including the College’s most prestigious prize, The Chappell Medal. During his studies, Despax benefited from the advice of many illustrious musicians including Nikolai Demidenko, Leon Fleisher, John Lill, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Murray Perahia and Sir András Schiff.

A remarkable performer of romantic and post-romantic music, Despax has been invited to give recital performances throughout the UK and Europe. He has featured as a concerto soloist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and has also regularly been broadcast on Medici TV, France Musique, BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

With an epic programme featuring Busoni’s colossal transcription of Bach’s Chaconne in D Minor, Schubert’s ground-breaking and formidable Wanderer Fantasy, and two of Liszt’s most awe-inspiring works, this is a rare opportunity to hear some of the most powerful and technically dazzling works in the piano repertoire played by one of the world’s most brilliant young pianists.
